Not as good as Katie yet
But I'm tryin'!
My blogging BFF Katie DePalma over at Quid Quid is a couponing maven. She is one of those crazy bitches that gets a week's worth of groceries for $12. She keeps it real, too. You know those women on the evening news spots that get the entire cart's worth of groceries for 78 cents because they spent 6 hours that day planning their trip and now they have a year's worth of american cheese slices? That's not Katie. She only buys things that she actually needs and makes it work to make delicious food for her new hubby and her childhood BFF. I am totally jealous that I do not live in ATL so I can get in on some sweet, couponed meal lovin.' Oh well.
It was Katie who introduced me to Southern Savers, a blog about taking the guess work out of couponing. Now, using a coupon will save you a few cents. Buying something on sale will save you a few cents. Roaming around the store all day and looking for items that are on sale that you also have a coupon for will not save you any time. Jenny does it all for you. She posts the weekly ads and inserts for sale items from different stores and then matches them up with a recent coupon. I tried it last week for the first time I Kroger. I bought about $36 worth of groceries for $24. Not bad. Not great, but not bad. Today, Ryan and I went to Target to try it again. Here is what we came up with:
Nescafe Instant Coffee Sticks
on sale for $1, 50 cent coupon
Dannon activia Yogurt 4-pack
one sale for $1.84, $1 coupon
Satin Care Shave Gel - trial size
on sale for 99 cents, 55 cent coupon
two Herbal Essences Styling Products
on sale for $3 each, one dollar off coupon, one B1G1 coupon.
Grand total including tax? $4.22! I saved $6.04!
Are you proud of me, Katie?
P.S. Next time you make brownies, mix a little instant coffee in with the batter. You will thank me.
