How to decorate for Halloween

In 31 Easy Steps!

First, approach your closet or storage space. It can be pretty scary in there!

Get out the bins on Halloween decorations.

Asses the contents.
You've worked hard so far. Get a beer. Preferably a seasonal, craft brew.
Dress your beer up for Halloween! It is going to be a Union soldier in the Civil War.
Note how cute your kitty looks, all matchy-matchy.
Lay everything out on the floor and sort into categories. Here we have general decor.
Here are some housewares.
Crafty things.
Costumes of years gone by.
A towel in the bin! Sweet! You needed an extra towel!
Put the costumes away. You won't need them this year.
Write a card to your Mother-in-Law. She will crack up.

Test lights. They work. Leave them on the floor. They look good there, no?
Put the usual things in their usual places.

And the not so usual things in their not so usual places.

Put some candy corn in a vase. This is my favorite, super cheap decoration. Remind Dear Husband not to eat these because they are 7 years old.
Put this crap everywhere. It's so fun!

Remember making these with your Mexican friend. Those were good times.
This is Javier. He actually stays out all year.
This is up all year, too. She was bought at Indigenous, and made by an artists whose name escapes me at the moments. Crap. I know it was Melissa. Can't remember her last name. She was married to one of the guys from The Stapletons.
You did a great job! Get another beer!

Burger Challenge #37

Fatburger
Whaaaa?

Yup, closed. And didn't appear to relocate either. Bummer. Good thing we ate there about a year ago. Too bad we didn't take pictures. If you ever come across one in your travels, I'd recommend it. Queen Latifah does, too.

This is the eleventh trip of our burger challenge; to eat at all 40 places on Cincinnati Magazine's list of the best burgers in town and Fatburger was number 37 on the list, hence the title of this post.

Here is what we've had so far:
# 7 Oakley Pub and Grill
#9 Keystone Bar and Grill
#17 Arthur's
#19 Cafe de Wheels
#24 Zola
#25 Chalk Food + Wine
#26 Five Guys
#28 Doris and Sonny's Homelike Restaurant
#35 Gordo's Cafe
#36 By Golly's

Robots in space

The theme for our new nephew, who is due Dec. 31st. Ryan's Brother and Sister-in-law are making him a super cool kid before he even gets here. I'm seriously tempted to haul my own bed down to Louisville and make it my own room.

Burger Challenge #19

Cafe de Wheels! click the link for locations! It's the gourmet roach coach! I can't stop exclamating!!!!!!!!!!! not because the food is fantastic, but, because Mark Twain undocumentedly said, "I hope the end of the world comes when I am in Cincinnati, because everything happens there 10 years later."* There are souped up trucks all over the west coast and beaches with things like papusarias, creperies, and the big gay ice cream truck in NYC and we've finally come up to speed. I've eaten at Cafe de wheels twice already while working at the Main Library, and it's a quick, easy lunch.

Here's the best part of the whole experience. I've eaten there twice before. I went on this day because Mr. Pie and I were going to order burgers and take pictures of it for y'all.

We ordered.

We waited for our food.

They called out, "Tim!" and a man in a suit came up and grabbed a bag.

They called out, "Susie!" and a woman in a demin dress grabbed a bag.

Mr. Pie says to me, " did you give them your name?"

I say, "No."

"MEGHAN!"

THEY REMEMBERED MY NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after only 2 previous trips!

That is alone worth all the stars in the food-blog-o-sphere and all my love. Except, what I gave of my love to Mr. Pie's chicken sandwich, which, is the best thing on the menu.

You'll see that parked next door is Senor Roy's taco truck, and next to that was New Orleans To Go, which was featuring a daily special of glazed tilapia that everyone was smiling about.

This, below, is my burger. Since this is my burger, and my blog, I always get the burger and Mr. Pie gets whatever he wants, as long as he shares.

The fried chicken sandwich is what we recommend going for. It's the bomb.

The fries are generous for $2.

One of the two previous times I've eat Cafe de Wheels, I had the Key Lime Tart. I didn't plan on ordering dessert, but was told, "we have key lime tarts today, and they're half-off. Would you like one?" I LOVE KEY LIME PIE.

So I said, "sure."

When my credit bill came later that month, they hadn't even charged me the paltry sum for it, so I really can't tell you how much it was, but when it speaks to Mr. Pie and my love for him and our honeymoon to Key West, I can't say no. When they have it again, get it.

* Cincinnatians love to say this and self-efface themselves, but, seriously, there's no proof he ever said it...which just means we need it all that more.

This is the tenth trip of our burger challenge; to eat at all 40 places on Cincinnati Magazine's list of the best burgers in town and Cafe de Wheels was number 19 on the list, hence the title of this post.

Happy Birthday, Hubs

He's 29. It's hard to believe we're still "in our 20s" because we've been together for the better part of this decade. I hope the rest of our decades together are just as good.

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati!

Cincinnati has the second largest Oktoberfest! Second only to Munich! It's all about the chicken dance, polka, weiner dog races, Bavarian music...but most beer and food.

Mmm...strudel...

Limburger and onion on rye. DON'T HATE!!!!

Goetta Mac and cheese.

This poem, by Longfellow, written on fountain square , which I've never noticed.

Fried pickles!
